Second-Seeded TCU Advances to Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship Match
April 29, 2011 GREELEY, Colo. - The second-seeded and 57th-ranked TCU men's tennis team notched a 4-2 victory over third-seeded and 56th-ranked New Mexico to advance to the championship match at the Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship. TCU took a 1-0 lead, picking up the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively. The 48th-ranked tandem of Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price downed the 62nd-ranked duo of Jadon Phillips and Phil Anderson, 9-7, at the No. 1 position, while the pair of Daniel Sanchez and Zach Nichols netted an 8-4 victory over Joe Wood and Carl Ho at the third position. The two teams exchanged points early in singles play. Nichols used two sets to defeat Ben Dunbar, 7-6 (2), 6-0, at the No. 2 position to give the Horned Frogs a 2-0 advantage. New Mexico countered with a 6-4, 6-3 win from Anderson over Price at the No. 3 spot. The Lobos evened the match, 2-2, after Phillips recorded a come-from-behind win over Brighiu (1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4) at the top of the singles lineup. The Horned Frogs jumped out to a 3-2 advantage in the dual after Slah Mbarek rallied from a first-set deficit to defeat Ho, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Sanchez defeated Wood (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 6 singles position to clinch the match for the Horned Frogs.
