Air Force And UNLV Advance To The Semifinals Of The Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship Air Force upsets New Mexico, 5-2, while UNLV defeats Utah, 4-1.
April 28, 2005 SAN DIEGO - No. 6 seed Air Force upset No. 3 seed New Mexico, 5-2, while No. 4 seed UNLV defeated No. 5 seed Utah, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship, Thursday at the Barnes Tennis Center. The No. 61-ranked Lobos earned the match's first point by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, including No. 14-ranked Ryan Stotland and David Kowalski getting a win over No. 31-ranked Shannon Buck and Tyler McClung at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. In singles play, though, Air Force rallied as No. 60 Shannon Buck defeated Max Jones at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3 and Trevor Johnson (No. 3) and Justin Lau (No. 5) pulled out three-set victories to clinch the win for the Falcons. In the second men's match, UNLV won at No. 2 and 3 doubles to earn the first point. No. 95 Henner Nehles won at No. 1 singles for the Rebels, 6-1, 7-5, while Aviram Salomon and Romain Massaro also won singles matches. Utah's Ryan Scott won at No. 4 singles for the Utes' lone point. No. 2 seed BYU takes on Air Force in tomorrow's first men's semifinal at 11 a.m., while No. 1 seed San Diego State faces UNLV in the second semifinal Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center. 2005 Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship
