Third-Seeded New Mexico Downs No. 6 Utah to Advance to the Semifinals of the 2011 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship
April 27, 2011 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Third-seeded New Mexico advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Utah at the University Tennis Complex on the campus of Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. The Lobos took a 1-0 lead in the dual, picking up the doubles point in two matches. New Mexico's 62nd-ranked doubles tandem of Phil Anderson and Jadon Phillips were victorious over the duo of Gino Octa and Alejandro Medinilla, 8-1, at the No. 1 position. At the No. 3 position, UNM's Joe Wood and Carl Ho downed Dmytro Mamedov and Devin Lane, 8-3, to give the Lobos the point. Conor Berg cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ben Tasevac at the No. 5 position to give the Lobos at 2-0 advantage and Ben Dunbar followed shortly thereafter with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lane to draw New Mexico within one point of securing the match. The Lobos secured the match at the sixth singles position, as Joe Wood downed Octa in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) to propel New Mexico to victory. Third-seeded New Mexico will meet second-seeded TCU in the semifinals of the 2011 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship on Friday at 2 p.m. MT.
