New Mexico Defeats BYU in Second Round of MWC Championship

Lobos to play for conference title on Saturday.

PROVO, Utah - In the second semifinal match at this year's MWC Men's Tennis Championships, the New Mexico Lobos got off to a strong start in doubles play and then went on to win the next three singles matches to beat hosts BYU 4-0, Friday. The Lobos will meet top seeded SDSU in the title game on Saturday afternoon.

The match was closely contested in doubles play as both teams battled down to the wire before New Mexico got the lead with wins from their number one and third doubles duos. In singles play, the Lobos' David Kowalski extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over BYU's Jeff Olsen. Wins at the number five and the number two singles positions sealed the New Mexico win.

The finals are set to begin at 2 p.m. MDT, between New Mexico and San Diego State. In the third place match, it will be BYU and Air Force at 10 a.m.
