New Mexico Defeats UNLV to Advance to Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Championship Match

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -

The University of New Mexico men's tennis team defeated UNLV, 4-1, on Friday afternoon to advance to the 2009 Mountain West Conference Men's Tournament championship match. The Lobos will face regular-season champion TCU on Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

UNM earned the doubles point with identical 8-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby beat Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi at No. 1, while Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Wood beat Wesley Burrows and Mehdi Bouras at No. 2.

MWC Player of the Year Johnny Parkes picked up the second point for the Lobos with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Wronski. UNLV cut the Lobo lead to 2-1 when Burrows beat Bugby at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Kassautzki and Carl Ho picked up the final points for New Mexico with wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
