Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg earns October honors.
Nov. 2, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Aaron Goldberg has been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for October.
Goldberg, an Encinitas, Calif., native, defeated Boise State's Troy Merritt on the third playoff hole to take individual medalist honors at the District 7 Shootout in Las Vegas on Oct. 9-10.
Goldberg's victory over 88 other golfers, secured a team victory for San Diego State among the 15 schools competing in the Shootout. He finished the 54-hole event at 12-under-par 201 (68-66-67) on the 6,722-yard Mountain Course, setting a new San Diego State scoring record for a 54-hole tournament. Additionally, Goldberg's 12-under-par performance was tops among the 21 other golfers who finished the tournament under par.
Following the individual victory, Goldberg finished in a tie for sixth out of 100 players at the Barona Collegiate Cup on Oct. 23-24. He posted a six-under-par 210 (66-69-75) on the 7,323-yard Barona Creek Course.
Goldberg carded under par scores in five of six rounds of play during the month of October and is currently tied for third in the MWC with a 69.67 stroke average.
