CSU Men's Golf In Third At Barona Collegiate Cup Leading the way for the Rams are Aaron Weston and Kevin McAlpine.
Oct. 25, 2004 LAKESIDE, CALIF. - The Colorado State men's golf team continued its California golf marathon on Monday playing 54 holes in the first day of the Barona Collegiate Cup at the Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside, Calif. After two rounds, the Rams are in third place with a 17-under-par 559 led by three four-under 68s in the second round on Monday. Colorado State is led by two players in the top 10 individually as Aaron Weston fired a three-under 69 followed by a four-under 68 to pace the Rams with a 137, good for a tie for sixth individually. Kevin McAlpine is in a tie for ninth after two rounds with scores of 70 and 68 for a one-day total of 138. The Rams have been solid from top to bottom in the first two rounds as Derrick Whiting sits in a tie for 17th with a four-under 140 including a 68 in the second round. Nate Pettitt and John Hayes round out the CSU scoring with a 144 and 150, respectively. Mountain West rival BYU leads the tournament with a 548 while Ohio State sits just three strokes in front of the Rams with a 556. Buckeye Scott Anderson leads the tournament with a 10-under 134.
