Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month BYU's Merizalde garners honor for first time this season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Manuel Merizalde was named Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month after two outstanding September performances. Merizalde led the Cougars to a fourth place finish at the Cleveland Golf/Kiawah Island Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C., Sept. 10-11. Individually, he placed second after shooting an eight-under 208 (72-69-67) over three rounds, including two sub-70 rounds (69-67) to conclude the tournament. Merizalde followed that performance with his first individual title of the year as BYU placed 9th at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 21-22. He captured the crown by three strokes after posting a nine-under 209 (72-71-66) over 54-holes, including a career-low 66 in the final round. Merizalde also garnered Golf World's Men's College Player of the Week honors in its Sept. 29th issue. He currently leads the MWC with a 69.5 stroke average on the season.
