UNM's Letzig Named National Player of the Week by Golf World Magazine Senior garners award after winning William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.
Sept. 20, 2002 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico senior golfer Michael Letzig (Richmond, Mo.) has been named national player of the week by Golf World Magazine. Letzig is recognized in the Sept. 20 issue of the publication. With a final-round 70 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the University of New Mexico Championship Course, Letzig became the first Lobo to win the individual title in five years. His nine-under 207 was three shots better than runner-up Ryan Moore of UNLV. Letzig recently finished in a tie for second at the Sooner Invitational, carding a 10-under 206. In six rounds this fall, Letzig is a combined 19-under-par and has a stroke average of 68.8.
The men's golf team will be back in action Oct. 7-8 at the Pepperdine Club Glove Intercollegiate in Malibu, Calif.
