Goulding Leads Falcons On Day One Of Tucker Invitational
Sept. 16, 2005 Albuquerque, N.M. - With junior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) setting the pace, the Air Force golf team fired a two-round total of 603 (+27) on Friday at the 51st-annual William H. Tucker Invitational, hosted by New Mexico at the 7,350-yard, par-72 UNM Championship Course. The Falcons are currently tied with Iowa State for 17th place. UNLV sits atop the leaderboard at 6-under-par (570), while Texas Tech, Colorado, Northwestern and Texas A&M round out the top five in the standings. Air Force put in a solid first-round effort, scoring a 4-over-par 292. Goulding led the way, parlaying four birdies and an eagle into a score of 69 to pace the team in the opening round. After struggling with hole 1 in the second round, Goulding regrouped with a strong finish down the stretch to complete the day tied for 12th with an even-par 144. Freshman Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.), in his first varsity appearance, shot a 70 in round one before firing a 79 in the second round to finish the day tied for 49th with a 5-over-par 149.
Also competing for the Falcons were sophomore Tyler Labrum (Roosevelt, Utah), who is currently tied for 68th after shooting 152 on day one, sophomore Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who fired a two-round total of 162, and senior Scott Redmond (Columbus, Ga.), who ended the first day of competition with a score of 162.
The Falcons will wrap things up at the Tucker Invitational tomorrow with the final round beginning at 7:30 a.m. Fans can follow the action via live scoring available at www.golfstat.com.
