Air Force Takes Fourth Place At Falcon Invitational

USAFA, Colo. - Finishing at an even-par 864, the Air Force golf team placed fourth at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, being held at the 7,306-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Blue Course. Capturing the team title was Xavier, which turned in a tournament-record 845 (-19), while the Musketeers' Jason Kokrak also notched a tournament record to claim medalist honors, finishing at 12-under-par (204) for the weekend.

Leading the way for the Falcons was freshman Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), who fired a round of 66 on Sunday to finish tied for fourth place at 5-under-par (211), while senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) sat three strokes behind in a tie for 10th place after turning in a 69 in the final round.

Also competing for the Falcons' varsity group were junior Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.), who finished tied for 49th place at 222 and Chad Follett (Sr., El Paso, Texas) and Andrew Gibson (So., San Ramon, Calif.), both tied for 61st place at 224.

Meanwhile, the Air Force Blue Team finished 19th in the team standings, led by junior Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.). Whitney ended in a tie for 37th place, finishing the tournament at 4-over-par (220).

Rounding out the competitors for the Air Force Blue Team were sophomore Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Jared Freeman (Brazil, Ind.) and freshmen Josh McFarland (Layton, Utah) and Michael Pak (St. Louis, Mo.).

The Falcons return to action in two weeks, Sept. 22-23, when they compete in the William H. Tucker Invitational, hosted by MWC opponent New Mexico.
