July 13, 2003

LEHI, Utah--Utah golfer Carl Jensen was edged by former Colorado State golfer Tommy Sharp in the Utah State Amateur Championship on July 13, 2003. It was the first time since 1994 that a State Am Championship match went the entire 36 holes.

Jensen never led through the first 18 holes, as the two were tied at the intermission. The Salt Lake City native took his first lead with a birdie on the opening hole of the afternoon round. But, Sharp continued to match Jensen's play. Down two strokes after 13 holes, Jensen scored an eagle on the 14th to even things up once again. Tied through 15 Sharp would then take a one-stroke lead at the 16th, which he would hold onto over the next two holes for the victory.
