COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force golfer Alex Horrell was one of a league-record 548 individuals named a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete for the 2008-09 season, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.

Horrell, a native of Scottsdale, Ariz., is a rising senior who carries a 3.77 GPA in systems engineering management. Horrell competed at the season-opening Falcon Invitational in September, as well as several events with the junior varsity team.

The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
