Four Mountain West Conference Student-Athletes Receive GTE Men's Academic All-America Honors
UNLV's Jeremy Anderson receives first-team honors.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Four Mountain West Conference student-athletes were named to the GTE At-Large Academic All-America team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). UNLV golfer Jeremy Anderson was a first-team selection, while New Mexico's Wil Collins (Golf), BYU's John Hedengren (Track) and Utah's Teren Jameson (Track) were named to the second-team. Anderson, a senior from Lake Mary, Fla., was named the first-ever Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Year and finished the 2000 season ranked fifth in the nation. He became the first UNLV golfer to earn first-team All-America honors twice in his career after finishing in 10th place at the 2000 NCAA Golf Championship. In addition to first-team honors in 1999, he earned second-team All-America honors as a sophomore in 1998. Anderson carries a 3.68 grade-point-average in Business Management. Collins, a sophomore from Rapid City, S.D., helped lead the Lobos to the NCAA Men's Golf Championship and has a 3.85 grade-point-average in Business. A junior from Richland, Wash., Hedengren finished third in the 10,000-meter run and seventh in the 5,000 meters at the 2000 MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He carries a 3.95 grade-point-average in Chemical Engineering. Jameson, a sophomore from Taylorsville, Utah, placed second in the 5,000-meter run at the 2000 MWC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He has a 4.00 grade-point-average in Electrical Engineering.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, must be a starter on the team and be in at least their second season at the school. The spring at-large team included student-athletes from the sports of tennis, track and field, golf and volleyball.
