ALBUQUERQUE - University of New Mexico men's golfer Wil Collins was named third team All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Collins becomes the first freshman in school history to be named All-American. A freshman, Collins finished the season ranked No. 25 individually in the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Poll, and had a stroke average of 72.95, the lowest on the team. He had five top-10 finishes and seven top-20 placings on the year. He won two tournaments, including the Herb Wimberly Classic in Las Cruces, N.M., with a score of 134, -8, and the BELLSOUTH Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C., with a score of 212, -4. A native of Rapid City, S.D., Collins was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, the second Lobo ever to be so anointed. He is the 37th UNM men's golfer to earn All-America accolades.
