Former Ram Earns Spot in U.S. Open Martin Laird will compete in the U.S. Open, June 14-17.
June 6, 2007 Former Colorado State University Men's Golf standout, Martin Laird, has qualified for the U.S. Open. Laird, who owns the CSU records for tournament wins (4), top-10 finishes (23), top-20 finishes (31) and rounds played (154), won one of five spots for the U.S. Open in sectional qualifying on Monday in North Riverside, Ill. Laird, who is having a breakout season on the Nationwide Tour, including a win at the Athens Regional Foundations Classic, currently ranks 11th on the Nationwide Tour money list. He earned the fourth berth with a birdie on the first playoff hole after shooting 72-71-143 in the 36-hole sectional at Riverside Country Club. The U.S. Open will be held June 14-17 at Oakmont CC in Pittsburgh.
