HIGHLAND -- University of Utah golfer Dustin Pimm took second place at a local qualifier for the United States Open on May 23. He carded a 66 at the Alpine Country Club to advance to the sectional qualifier in Littleton, Colo. on June 6.

It was the first time Pimm has survived the local qualifier. He advanced to the sectional qualifier at the Columbine Country Club.

Pimm was just one stroke off the pace at the local qualifying round. He posted seven birdies during his round. That finish allowed him to compete for the one spot in the U.S. Open, which will be up for grabs at the sectional qualifier. Pimm will be competing with 27 other golfers for that opportunity.

Pimm recently completed his first season with the University of Utah. As a freshman, he played in each event for the Utes. Pimm recorded the low round of the season for Utah in 2004-05, scoring a 67 on two separate occasions. He tied for tops on the team, playing 37 rounds throughout the season.
