UNLV's Ryan Moore Claims 2005 Nicklaus Award UNLV's Moore and New Mexico's Spencer Levin named PING First Team All-American
June 6, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV senior Ryan Moore was named the 2005 winner of the Nicklaus Award presented by Dillards Inc. and Hartmarx Corp. The honor is presented to the outstanding player in Division I golf. The first Rebel ever to win the Nicklaus Award, Moore was last month tabbed the school's initial winner of the Hogan Award, generally referred to as the Heisman Trophy of college golf. The low amateur at the Masters with a tie for 13th place, Moore won three tournaments this season: the William H. Tucker, the John Burns Intercollegiate and the Hall of Fame Invitational. He finished no lower than sixth in a collegiate event this season and led the nation in stroke average with a school-record 69.28. Moore's final career scoring mark of 70.76 also shattered Anderson's all-time Rebel record of 72.01. The 2004 NCAA Champion won the U.S. Public Links and U.S. Amateur, as well as the Sahalee Players Championship and the Western Amateur. A member of the U.S. World Amateur team, he was low individual at the competition. The native of Puyallup, Wash., competed in the Walker Cup and two Palmer Cups presented by Monster. Moore was also a two-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Year receipient, capturing the award in both 2004 and 2005. Moore, along with New Mexico junior Spencer Levin were named 2005 PING first team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Moore joins two former Rebels (Jeremy Anderson and Warren Schutte) in becoming the program's only two-time PING First Team All-Americans. Levin was a second team PING All-American in 2004 and a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award this season.
