COLUMBUS, Ohio - San Diego State sophomore Mark Warman's final round at the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf Championships turned out to be a microcosm of the four-day tournament.

Tied for third after the opening round and 12th through 36 holes before falling off the pace, Warman opened his final round in good shape, shooting par or better for the fourth straight time on holes 10-18 on The Ohio State University Scarlet Course. However, the front nine, which had given Warman fits during all but the opening round, once again erased any hopes that he could climb in the final standings as the sophomore carded bogeys on one, six, and seven and a double-bogey on five to finish the day at 3-over-par 74.

Warman's 74, which also included four birdies, dropped him from 37th to 51st in the final individual standings with a four-round total of 5-over 289. It was the third time in four rounds that the sophomore had posted a four-birdie round.

Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech used a final-round 4-under 67 to capture the individual championship with a four-round score of 8-under 276. TCU's Adam Rubinson finished up at 7-under 277 to take second, with Oklahoma State's Hunter Mahan placing third at 6-over 278.

Minnesota won the team championship, riding a final-round 6-under-par 278 to climb from fourth to first with a final team score of 2-under 1134. Georgia Tech finished second at 2-over 1138, while Clemson and Texas tied for third at 6-over 1142.
