FORT WORTH, Texas - One current TCU golfer, a future Horned Frog and six former purple and white standouts have advanced to the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Stage. On Monday, the eight players will compete against approximately 750 fellow entrants for the final 86 spots in the 2007 U.S. Open, which will be played June 14-17 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

Jon McLean, who recently completed his sophomore season in Fort Worth, will play in the Purchase, N.Y., qualifier. McLean earned a spot in the field after tying for fifth place at his local qualifier in Weston, Fla.

Ben Murray, a freshman-to-be for head coach Bill Montigel, was the runner up at the Palm Desert qualifier. The nation's 39th-ranked junior golfer according to the Golfweek boy's rankings continues his quest for the U.S. Open at the Bear Creek Golf Course in Murrieta, Calif.

Recent graduate Drew Stoltz will be reunited with his former teammate and 2005 co-conference medalist, Colby Beckstrom, at the Ohio State Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio. Stoltz shared third place in Fort Collins, Colo., while Beckstrom tied for fourth in the local event in Naples, Fla.

Fort Worth native and two-time All-American Adam Rubinson tied for seventh at the Irving, Texas, local tournament and will compete at the other Columbus site, the Double Eagle Country Club. Two more former TCU All-Americans, Adam Meyer and Bret Guetz, will join Rubinson. Meyer tied for sixth in Richmond, Texas, while Guetz shared third place in his home state of Colorado.

The final former Frog who will be competing next week is Sal Spallone. Spallone was the medalist at his site in Boynton Beach, Fla., and will play at the Riverside Golf Course in North Riverside, Ill. In 2005, he reached the U.S. Open and made national news when he offered advertising space on his shirt through Ebay.

Three-time TCU All-American J.J. Henry earned an exemption into the U.S. Open Championship by placing in the top 30 on the PGA Tour's 2006 money list. He is currently No. 69 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
