SALT LAKE CITY - Utah sophomore Nick Micek is one of four golfers to post a winning score of 2-under-par 70 at the U.S. Open local qualifying tournament held at Alpine Country Club on May 12.

Micek now moves on to the sectional qualifying in early June, where he'll have the chance to qualify for the U.S. Open in Illinois June 12-15.

"Obviously, I wish him the best of luck,” says Utah Head Coach Wayne Fisher. "This will be a great experience for Nick. It should be a confidence boost for him as he resumes play next year.”

Micek played in six tournaments in 2002 averaging 77.6 a round before red-shirting this past year at Utah. The Sandy, Utah, native graduated from Alta High School but was a member of the 1999 state 1A and 2A championship team from Waterford High School.
