Ben Leestma shot a three-round total of 227 (80-74-73) to finish tied for 82nd place at the West Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M. Leestma was invited to compete as an individual at the tournament, held at The Championship Course (par 72).

Leestma struggled in the first round, shooting an eight-over-par 80. He regrouped and finished the next two rounds just three-over-par. Over 140 golfers representing 27 teams competed in the event.

Leestma finished an outstanding career for the Falcons. He holds the record for most tournament wins and lowest three-round tournament score. He was ranked fourth in the Mountain West with a 72.5 per round stroke average.

The tournament was won by host New Mexico, with Washington garner runner-up honors. Justin Smith of Minnesota and Ricky Barnes of Arizona tied for the individual championship.
