SUNRIVER, Ore. - The San Diego State men's golf team fired a one-under-par 287 on Thursday in the first round of play in the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional at the Sunriver Resort-Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore.

The Aztecs are in seventh place in the 27-team regional after one full round of play with the top 10 squads advancing to the NCAA Championship. The tournament features 18 holes on Friday and another 18 on Saturday. San Diego State is just four shots behind tournament-leading UCLA (283). The Aztecs are trying to advance to the championship tournament for the second straight year.

On Thursday, the Aztecs were led by Encinita freshman Aaron Goldberg, whose 3-under 69 has him three shots off the lead and in third place in the medalist race.
