LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Two University of Wyoming golfers have earned Verizon Academic All-District honors. Junior Alison McGuire of Cheyenne, Wyo., and sophomore Mike Mezei of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, both earned First Team Academic All-District VII At-Large honors this week.

McGuire has achieved a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average in political science. The graduate of Cheyenne Central High School, she is one of 11 female student-athletes to be selected to the Academic All-District VII Women's At-Large First Team. McGuire is a two-time Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference selection. She recorded two Top 10 finishes during the 2001-02 season, including a season best fifth-place showing at the Eastern Washington Inland Empire Intercollegiate. She is the daughter of Jan and Pat McGuire of Cheyenne.

Mezei has earned a 3.92 cumulative GPA in finance. A graduate of Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, Alberta, Mezei has twice earned Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference honors. He placed in the Top 25 in five of 10 tournaments during the 2001-02 season, concluding the 2001-02 season with his best finish of the year -- a tie for sixth place at the Mountain West Conference Championship. Mezei was one of 10 male student-athletes to be selected to the Academic All-District VII Men's At-Large Team.

The at-large team selections are made from the sports of: crew (women only), fencing, field hockey (women only), golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball (men only), water polo and wrestling (men only).
