The Colorado State men's golf team will head to Palo Alto, Calif., on May 19-21 to compete in the NCAA West Regional. The Rams are coming off a 5th place finish at the MWC Championship in Sunriver, Ore. The Rams fired a three-round 886 (+22) at the par-72/7,568 yard Sunriver Resort -Crosswater Golf Club. Junior Nate Pettitt had his best finish of the season with a tie for 9th place. Pettitt carded a three-round 218 (+2) and shot a one-under 71 in the opening round. Colorado State will enter the NCAA West Championship with eight top-10 finishes and an average team-round of 290.00. The Rams' best finish of the year came at the Irish Spring Invitational where CSU carded a three-round 889 and earned 2nd place. Junior Kevin McAlpine leads the Rams with a 72.34 stroke average and four top-10 finishes. Colorado State is ranked No. 64 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. Three Mountain West Conference teams are currently ranked in the top-15: No. 4 UNLV, No. 5 New Mexico and No. 13 BYU. Ryan Moore of UNLV is ranked No. 1 in individual play and New Mexico's Spencer Levin is No. 2.

NCAA West Regional Preview...
The Colorado State men's golf team earned its 10th straight invitation to compete in the NCAA West Regional Tournament in Palo Alto, Calif., May 19-21. The Rams earned the 18th seed in the tournament field of 27. The Rams, who are ranked No. 64 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, will be one of 81 teams in this year's championships. Three regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the national championships field. CSU is one of 27 teams competing in the West Regional, which is being hosted by Stanford University (Stanford Golf Course), in Palo Alto, Calif. The Rams are ranked 18th out of the tournament field of 27. The top 10 teams in each division advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held June 1-4 in Baltimore, Md., at the Caves Valley Golf Course.

The Rams are one of five Mountain West teams to advance to the regional field and will play in the West Regional along with UNLV, New Mexico, BYU and San Diego State. Live stats of the NCAA West Regional will be available at www.GolfStat.com.

The University of California overcame an eight-stroke deficit in the final round to win last year's championships at Cascades Golf Course in Hot Springs, Virginia. They captured the title with a 6-stroke win over UCLA. UNLV's Ryan Moore shot a 13-under 267 to win the individual title over Wake Forest's Bill Haas and Arizona's Chris Nallen who both finished 7-under par with a four-day total of 273. The final three rounds of the 2005 championships will be televised by The Golf Channel. Daily coverage (June 2-4) will be from 3-5 p.m. EST.

McAlpine Earns MWC All-Conference Team...
The Mountain West Conference announced its 2005 men's golf all-conference team and individual awards at the conclusion of its championship. Colorado State junior Kevin McAlpine was the lone Ram selected to the all-conference team. McAlpine finished the season with four top-10 finishes and led the Rams with the lowest stroke average. UNLV sophomore Ryan Moore was selected as player of the year for the second straight time, while UNLV's Jarred Texter was named freshman of the year. Coach of the year honors went to Glen Millican of New Mexico.
