SAN DIEGO - San Diego State golf coach Dale Walker will be the first to say it: After a couple of years of getting the program back into the national picture, the No. 23-ranked Aztecs need to take another step up.

The time has come. The opportunity will begin Thursday when the NCAA Western Regional tees off in Albuquerque, N.M.

"It is very important that we begin to set a tradition," said Walker, who's in his second year as SDSU's head coach. "We should go to regionals every year, and now we need to expect to go to nationals. That's not going to happen until we do it a couple of years in a row.
