Colorado Springs, Colo. ­ The Mountain West Conference will have five teams represented in the 2000 NCAA Men¹s Golf West Regional May 18-20 in Madera, Calif., hosted by Fresno State University. Mountain West champion UNLV, along with BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico and San Diego State were each selected as at-large teams to compete in the 27-team West Regional field. The West Regional is made up of Districts seven and eight, along with nine at-large teams. David Hearn of Wyoming and Ryan Ellis of Utah were among the six individuals selected to participate in the regional.

UNLV (1998) and BYU (1981) have both won NCAA titles in men¹s golf, while the Rebels¹ Warren Schutte is the only individual national champion (1991) from a Mtn. West institution.

The West Regional will be played at the Riverbend Golf Club. A single 18-hole practice round will be conducted on Wednesday, May 17 beginning at 8 a.m. Competition is scheduled to begin at 7:12 a.m., Thursday, May 18.

The 2000 NCAA Division I Men¹s Golf Championship will be held May 31-June 3 at the Grand National Golf Complex in Opelika, Ala., hosted by Auburn University. The NCAA championship structure will feature three regional tournaments to be conducted May 18-20, encompassing the nine districts and a total of 421 participants. The East Regional will take place at the Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa. (hosted by Temple University), while the Central Regional will be held at the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas (hosted by Southwest Texas State). At least eight teams from each regional will advance to the finals and a total of 156 players in all will compete in the 2000 NCAA Men¹s Golf Championship. The two lowest scoring individuals from each regional, whose teams do not advance, will also move on to the championship finals. The remainder of the field will be selected by the Division I Men¹s Golf Committee.
