Six MWC Golf Teams Earn NCAA Regional Bids

BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV and TCU to compete in postseason play

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference will have a record six teams represented in the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Regional, announced Monday by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee. BYU earned the automatic berth after capturing the conference championship last week in Tucson, Ariz., and will be joined by Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV and TCU. Individually, Dustin Pimm of Utah was selected to compete in the regional format.

Three regional tournaments, encompassing the current nine sub-regions, will be conducted May 17-19. A total of 27 teams and six individuals not on selected teams were assigned to each regional site. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals.

BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV will all participate in the West Regional which will be played at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. Utah's Dustin Pimm is one of six individuals that also will compete in Tempe at the West Regional.

TCU earned a No. 9 seed in the Central Regional to be played at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Frogs placed 13th in the Central Regional last year and look to return to the championships for the first time since 2004.

BYU ranks 17th in the nation according to the Golfstat ratings and is a No. 6 seed in the West Regional. The Cougars are making their 17th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and are in search of a fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships.

UNLV is the highest-rated MWC men's golf team at No. 6 in the latest Golfstat rankings. The Rebels earned a No. 3 seed at the West Regional, marking their 19th straight appearance in a NCAA Regional. UNLV is attempting to advance to the championships for the sixth consecutive year.

San Diego State will be a 16th seed, followed by New Mexico as the 17th seed and Colorado State as a No. 19 seed. The Aztecs are making their ninth straight postseason appearance, while the Lobos are in search of returning to the championships for the sixth time in the last eight years. San Diego State last appeared in the championships in 2005. Colorado State received an invitation to the postseason for the seventh time in the last eight years and is looking for their first championships appearance since 1999.

The NCAA Championships will be conducted May 30-June 2 at the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia. Virginia Commonwealth University is the host institution for this year's championships.
