Rams Earn NCAA Invite Rams earn seventh bid in eight seasons.
May 7, 2007 For the seventh time in the past eight seasons, Colorado State University's men's golf team has received an invitation to the NCAA regional tournament. The Rams will be among 27 teams and six individual competitors when competition begins May 17 at Arizona State University's Karsten Golf Course. Eighth-year coach Jamie Bermel's squad earned the bid following a fourth-place finish in the Mountain West Conference championships last month. Colorado State is one of five MWC teams entered in the regional, joining conference champion BYU, as well as UNLV, San Diego State and the University of New Mexico in the regional field. The Rams feature a youthful but talented team led by all-conference performer Zen Brown. Brown, who formerly played at Pomona High in Arvada, Colo., earned all-conference honors in 2007 and was 12th in the conference tournament. Seniors Aaron Weston and Derrick Whiting, along with freshmen Bryce Hanstad and Dustin Morris joined Brown in CSU's lineup at the conference tournament. Stanford is the top seed in the region, followed by UCLA and UNLV. CSU is the 19th seed in the region. The teams will play 54 holes over three days in the regional competition. The top 10 team teams plus two of the six individuals entered advance to the NCAA Championships May 30-June 2 at the Golden Horseshoe Club in Williamsburg, Va. Virginia Commonwealth University is the host institution.
