LARAMIE, Wyo. -

David Hearn Earns All-Conference Honors And Finishes 10th at the MWC Men's Golf Championship, Awaits NCAA Tournament Invitation: Wyoming senior David Hearn fired a one-under par round of 71 in the final round of the 2001 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship on Wednesday, May 2, and moved up from 16th place into 10th position. Hearn was also named to the six-man All-Mountain West Conference team. The Wyoming Cowboys fired their best round of the 54-hole tournament on Wednesday with a 302. The Cowboys finished seventh in the eight-team field with a final score of 925. Brigham Young captured the team title with a three-day total of 890. The individual title was won by John Lepak of San Diego State, who fired a three-round score of three-over par 219. UW's Hearn finished only six strokes back of Lepak. Hearn shot a 54-hole total of 225, nine-over par. The other Cowboy to finish in the Top 25 was senior Jake Hunter, who tallied a 16-over par score of 232 to tie for 22nd. "David (Hearn) really came back after the first day and put together an excellent tournament," said UW head golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "David has had one of the outstanding careers in the history of our program, and he is in the running to qualify for his third consecutive NCAA West Regional. "I can't say enough about these three seniors (David Hearn, Jake Hunter and Kevin Kayden). David, Jake and Kevin all had great careers at Wyoming. They should be proud of their accomplishments. "All-in-all the guys did a nice job. Kevin (Kayden) played a nice round on Wednesday, shooting a 75, and Jake (Hunter) played his normal consistent golf -- he was the only member of our team to shoot in the 70s each round of the tournament." Hearn was one of six individuals named to the All-Conference team. It was Hearn's first selection to the All-Conference squad during his four-year career at UW. The NCAA will announce participants for the 2001 NCAA Regionals on Tuesday, May 8, 2001.
