The Mountain West Men's Golf Championship returns to Tucson, Arizona for the fourth straight year in 2011. The 54-hole tournament will be held May 5-7 on the par 71, 7,144-yard Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National Resort. Each round begins at 7 a.m. PT on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
The 2011 MW Championship features three teams ranked in the top 50 of the latest Golfweek rankings, including No. 8 San Diego State, No. 41 TCU and No. 43 UNLV. Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming round out the field.
MW CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Colorado State captured its second Mountain West Men's Golf Championship in three years in 2010 with a 13-stroke victory (834) over San Diego State (847). The Rams' team total of 18-under-par 834 set a 54-hole MW Championship record for lowest team score by 10 strokes. The previous mark was 8-under-par 844 by both San Diego State and TCU at the 2009 MW Men's Golf Championship. New Mexico is the only institution to win consecutive championships, capturing four in a row from 2003-2006. The Lobos boast the most league titles with a total of four. BYU, Colorado State and UNLV have two apiece.
FIVE OF THE TOP 10 INDIVIDUALS FROM 2010 CHAMPIONSHIP RETURN IN 2011
Five of the Top 10 finishers from the 2010 MW Men's Championship return in 2011, including defending champion Ryan Peterson, a Colorado State senior who posted an 8-under 205 last year. Peterson was under par all three days (70-65-70), including a third-round score of 1-under 70 as he captured his first collegiate individual title. San Diego State senior Tom Berry finished third in 2010 with a 5-under 208, while UNLV junior Derek Ernst tied for fifth with a 1-under 212. BYU senior Esteban Calisto and San Diego State junior J.J. Spaun tied for seventh with an even-par 213.

AIR FORCE
The Falcons are paced by junior Robert Belz and freshman Philip Colwell, who rank No. 23 and No. 24, respectively, on the current MW Leader Board. Belz tied for 19th at the 2010 MW Men's Championship. Air Force's best finish came last year when it placed sixth.

BYU
Ranked No. 96 nationally in the latest Golfweek rankings, the Cougars boast the top-ranked player on the MW Leader Board in sophomore Zac Blair, who sports an average of 71.33 over 30 rounds. Blair is ranked No. 59 nationally in the latest Golfstat Cup Standings. Seniors Cameron Edens and Esteban Calisto currently rank No. 20 and No. 21, respectively, on the MW Leader Board. BYU, which finished fourth last year, captured the MW Men's Championship in 2001 and 2007.

COLORADO STATE
Defending individual champion Ryan Peterson is ranked No. 75 nationally in the latest Golfstat Cup Standings, averaging 71.67 over 30 rounds. Peterson, who ranks No. 2 on the current MW Leader Board, has five top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments this season, including a first-place finish at the Falcon Invitational. In addition to last year, the Rams also won the team title in 2008.

NEW MEXICO
The Lobos, who finished eighth last year, are looking for their first title since 2006. New Mexico is led by senior Travis Ross, who ranks seventh on the current MW Leader Board with an average of 72.84 over 38 rounds. Ross has posted three top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments this year, including a second-place finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational. Junior Tom Carlson and freshman John Catlin currently rank No. 17 and No. 19, respectively, on the MW Leader Board.

SAN DIEGO STATE
Holding the highest national ranking of any team in the Mountain West, San Diego State would love nothing more than to finally reach the pinnacle. The Aztecs, which finished tied for first with TCU in 2009, has finished second four times (2001, 2006, 2009, 2010). San Diego State has captured five tournament titles this season, including the Arizona Invitational held at Tucson National in March. The Aztecs boast four of the top 10 players on the current MW Leader Board, including junior J.J. Spaun (No. 3), junior Alex Kang (No. 4), junior Colin Featherstone (No. 8) and freshman Todd Baek (No. 9). At No. 53, Spaun is the highest-ranked MW player in the latest Golfstat Cup Standings with an average of 71.79 over 33 rounds.

TCU
The Horned Frogs finished fifth last year after capturing the crown in 2009 after a playoff victory over San Diego State and finishing second in 2008. Among MW teams, TCU ranks second only to San Diego State in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. The Frogs are paced by junior Johan de Beer, who currently ranks No. 12 on the MW Leader Board with an average of 72.7 over 30 rounds. Senior Tom Hoge holds a ranking of No. 16 on the MW Leader Board, while sophomore Pontus Gad is 27th.

UNLV
The event's third-place finisher each of the past two years, UNLV is looking for its first title since 2002. The Rebels also captured the conference's inaugural championship in 2000. UNLV currently has three players ranked among the top 15 on the MW Leader Board, including junior Derek Ernst (No. 5), sophomore Kevin Penner (No. 10) and freshman Blake Biddle (No. 14). Ernst, who is averaging 72.03 over 35 rounds, is ranked No. 68 nationally in the latest Golfstat Cup Standings. Ernst's best finish this season came at the Arizona Invitational, where he tied for third.

UTAH
The Utes have struggled the last two years in the MW Championship, finishing last each time after posting their best finish (fifth) in 2008. Utah is paced by senior Derek Adams, who ranks No. 24 on the current MW Leader Board with an average of 74.67 over 33 rounds.

WYOMING
The Cowboys' best finish in the MW Championship came in 2002 when they tied for fifth. Senior Gabe Maier has turned in a strong season, ranking No. 6 on the current MW Leader Board with an average of 72.1 over 31 rounds. Maier has five top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments this season, including a third-place finish at the Arizona NIT, also held at Tucson National. He also tied for third at the Air Force Gene Miranda Invitational.
