SUNRIVER, Ore - The San Diego State men's golf team is in third place after two rounds of play in the Mountain West Conference Championship, being held at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.

The Aztecs shot a five-over 293 on Friday to fall 10 shots back of first place New Mexico and eight shots behind second-place Brigham Young. The Aztecs opened play with a 281 on Thursday and were tied with Brigham Young for second place after the first 18 holes. SDSU's two-day total is 574, two under for the tournament.

In the individual race, Aztec senior Lars Johansson is tied for second place with a two-day total of 139 (five under) after he followed up Thursday's 67 with a 72. Colorado State's Martin Laird is the individual leader with a 136, three shots better than Johansson. Laird set a MWC championship record with a 66 on Thursday, just one day after BYU's Ron Harvey and Johansson set the record of 67.

A pair of Aztecs, John Lieber and Aaron Choi, are tied for 17th in the individual race.

Johansson is trying to become SDSU's second individual champion in three years. John Lepak was the 2001 medalist and last year Aztec Mark Warman finished second.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday.
