BYU Captures 2007 MWC Men's Golf Championship

The individual title came down to a playoff between TCU's Robby Ormand and San Diego State's Adam Porzak, with Ormand victorious.

TUCSON, Ariz. - BYU fired a two-over-par 286 for a six-under 846 to capture the 2007 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship by one-stroke over UNLV at the OMNI Tucson National Golf Course and Resort. The Cougars entered the final round with an eight stroke lead over the Rebels, but UNLV posted the days best team score at five-under 279, but fell one-stroke shy of forcing a team playoff. BYU won their first men's golf championship title since 2001 when the Cougars defeated San Diego State by two-strokes at the Crosswater Course in Sunriver, Ore.

The individual title came down to a playoff between TCU's Robby Ormand and San Diego State's Adam Porzak. Ormand and Porzak entered the final round tied for first and both shot an even par 71 in the third round to total six-under 207 for the tournament. Ormand defeated Porzak on the playoff hole after sinking a six-foot putt for par to capture medalist honors. Daniel Summerhays of BYU placed third with an even par 71 today and a 54-hole total of four-under 209.

TCU finished in third place in the team standings with a two-under 854 total after carding a one-over 285 in the final round. Colorado State placed fourth at eight-over 860, while San Diego State finished fifth at 11-over 863. New Mexico placed sixth at 13-over 865, followed by Utah in seventh at 891, Wyoming in eighth at 904 and Air Force in ninth at 924.
