CSU Finishes Third in Cougar Classic John Hayes paced the CSU team with an 11-under 205 for the tournament.
April 23, 2005 Provo, Utah - The Colorado State University men's golf team finished third in a 20-team field at the Ping Golf Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah Saturday. The Rams, who were in third place after two rounds, shot a third-round total of 278 to finish the tournament with an 829, nine shots off tournament winner Fresno State. John Hayes paced the CSU team with an 11-under 205 for the tournament. His score placed him in a tie for fifth individually just three shots off individual champion Mark Modglin of Fresno State. CSU's Kevin McAlpine carded a nine-under 207 to finish in a tie for eighth in the event. CSU was one of only three teams to place two individuals in the top 10 for the tournament. Ram Derrick Whiting shot a final-round 67 en route to a three-round total of 209 while Aaron Weston and Nate Pettitt rounded out the CSU scoring with a 212 and 215, respectively. CSU will play again on April 28-30 when they compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships in Sunriver, Ore.
