Lobos To Compete In Thunderbird Invitational Event to take place at ASU's Karsten Golf Course.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 17th-ranked University of New Mexico men's golf team will cap spring non-conference competition this weekend with an outing at the Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Arizona. The Lobos return to Arizona for their second-consecutive tournament, and likely hope to repeat or better their 2nd place finish at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson at the end of March. Following the ASU Thunderbird, the Lobos will compete at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Bend, Oregon from May 1-3. Tournament action begins at 7:30 a.m. Friday with a shotgun start and 36 holes on tap and culminates beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday with regular tee times and 18 holes slated. THE FIELD: In addition to New Mexico, the full field of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational includes (rankings in parenthesis): (4)Arizona, (22)Arizona State, (47)BYU, Colorado, Houston, (32)Oklahoma, (50)Oregon, Oregon State, (27)Pepperdine, (33)San Diego State, Stanford, (2)Texas, (7)Texas Christian University, (10)UCLA, (5) UNLV, (29) USC and Washington State. New Mexico head coach Glen Millican will take Michael Letzig, Jay Choi, Madalitso Muthiya, Ian Medlock and Derek Abel for competition. THE COURSE: The ASU Thunderbird Invitational is played on the Karsten Golf Course, a par-72, 7.037-yard run. The University of Texas won the 2002 Invitational and host school Arizona State has won the event 11 times.
