Ex-Rebel Feels Like A Million After Hot Start Campbell an emerging star on PGA Tour.
March 26, 2003
By Kevin Iole LAS VEGAS - Chad Campbell has a degree in hotel administration from UNLV, which may come in handy now in choosing five-star hotels in his travels on the PGA Tour. Given the way Campbell is playing lately, he can afford a little luxury. The 1996 All-American for the Rebels has emerged as one of the best young players on the Tour, compiling season earnings of $1,019,640 after eight events. Success is nothing new to Campbell, 28, who has won 16 pro titles. He was a three-time Hooter's Tour Player of the Year, winning 13 times in three years. He also won the 2001 money title in his only full season on the Buy.Com Tour, with a Tour-record $394,552 and three victories. Campbell has yet to win on the PGA Tour, but it appears only a matter of time. "I've had my chances, and that's all you can ask for," said Campbell, who has finished second twice this year and three times in his PGA Tour career. There is little secret to Campbell's success -- he hits the ball long, drives it straight and rarely misses a green. He has almost completely taken bogeys out of the picture, shooting under par in 25 of 31 competitive rounds this year.
