Air Force Finishes Day One At Falcon Invitational The Falcons, paced by junior Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.) currently sit at 1-over-par (577).
Sept. 9, 2006 USAFA, Colo. - With two rounds completed, the Air Force golf team currently sits in a tie for seventh place at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, being held at the 7,306-yard, par-72 Eisenhower Blue Course. The Falcons, paced by junior Matt Tanis (Asbury, N.J.) currently sit at 1-over-par (577). Leading the way in the team standings on day one is Colorado State at 566 (-10), while Nevada's Jared Becher leads the individual standings at 135 (-9).
Tanis, who is tied for 16th overall, is currently even at the end of day one after firing a 70 in the opening round. Meanwhile, senior Tyler Goulding (Tracy, Calif.) and freshman Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) sit just one stroke behind at 145, tying for 24th place. Rounding out the group for Air Force are senior Chad Follett (El Paso, Texas), tied for 34th place at 146, and sophomore Andrew Gibson (San Ramon, Calif.), tied for 70th.
In addition to its varsity group, the Air Force is also represented by a Blue Team, which is tied for 18th in the team standings at 608. Leading the way for the Blue Team is the Falcons' overall top finisher on day one, junior Bob Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.). Whitney currently sits in 10th place in the individual standings after shooting a 1-under-par in the first two rounds.
Also competing for the Blue Team are sophomore Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.), junior Jared Freeman (Brazil, Ind.) and freshmen Josh McFarland (Layton, Utah) and Michael Pak (St. Louis, Mo.).
The final round of the Falcon Invitational is slated to begin tomorrow morning at 8:00.
