OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a 22-over-par 302 during the third round of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Friday at Caves Valley Golf Club (par 70, 7,131 yards) and is in fourth place with a three-round total of 36-over 876.

UNLV (284-290-302--876, +36) is 21 shots behind team-leading Georgia (274-284-297--855, +15). The Bulldogs shot 17-over during the third round, but still hold the lead, which is now nine shots over Georgia Tech (288-281-295--864, +24). Southern California (290-282-303--875, +35) is third and there is a five-way tie for fifth place at 37-over.

The top 15 of the participating 30 teams have advanced to Saturday's final round with the cut coming in at 43-over.

Pepperdine's Michael Putnam (67-67-73--207, -3) shot a third-round 3-over 73, but held on to the individual lead at 3-under for the tournament. Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro (69-68-71--208, -2) and Augusta State's Major Manning (65-70--73--208, -2) are tied for second, one shot back. Those three are the only golfers in the field under par after three rounds of play.

Defending individual NCAA Champion Ryan Moore (72-73-71--216, +6) moved from 48th place into a tie for 17th after firing a 1-over 71 on Friday and is the top UNLV individual at 6-over.

Ryan Keeney (69-75-73--217, +7) is one shot behind teammate Moore at 7-over and is tied for 25th.

Other Rebel players are Andres Gonzales (70-73-77--220, +10; T43rd), Jarred Texter (74-70-81--225, +15; T85th) and Travis Whisman (73-74-81--228, +18; T112th).

 

 

Play concludes with 18 holes on Saturday.
