OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The University of New Mexico men's golf team finished in a tie for 15th place in the opening round of the 30-team NCAA Championships. The Lobos shot a 9-over par 289 in the first round on the par-70, 7,131 yard Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. UNM trails Georgia by 15-strokes as the Bulldogs shot a 6-under par 274 and leads second place Tennessee by five strokes.

Individually the Lobos were led by senior Miguel Griego who shot a 1-over par 71 for a tie for 33rd. Other Lobo results were junior Spencer Levin is tied for 49th at 2-over par, juniors Jay Choi and Mark Anderson are tied for 71st at 3-over par and senior Madalitso Muthiya is tied for 107th at 5-over par.

The individual leaders are Kevin Kisner of Georgia and Major Manning of Augusta State who are both 5-under par and are one stroke in front of Aron Price of Georgia Southern.

The second round of the NCAA Championships continues tomorrow at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. UNM is scheduled to tee off at 5:18 (MST). For full results of the NCAA Championships visit www.golfstat.com.
