ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico men's golf team had its first round of the NCAA Championships shortened by rain Wednesday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. UNM was still on the course when play was halted, and the first round will resume Thursday at 5 a.m. (MDT). The Lobos are unofficially tied for 27th place in the 30-team field, and have four of their five team members with holes still remaining to be played. The NCAA Championships are being played at the Scarlet Course and are hosted by Ohio State University.

Illinois is the unofficial leader of the tournament, at nine-under. The Illini have played 10-13 holes. The clubhouse leader is Colorado, who finished the first round with a team score of 280 (-4). Arizona finished at 282 (-2) and Florida, TCU and Toledo all finished at 283 (- 1).

Individually, UNM is led by true freshman Madalitso Muthiya. Playing in the number five position for the Lobos, Muthiya carded a first round total of 72 (+1). He bogeyed the first two holes, but played his final 16 holes at one-under. Wil Collins is at two-over par through 15 holes, while Scott Hailes, Michael Letzig and Jay Reynolds are all at three-over par. Colorado\'s Ben Portie is the clubhouse leader with an 18-hole score of 66 (-5). Georgia Tech\'s Nicholas Thompson and San Diego State\'s Mark Warman (67, -4) are tied for second.

UNM was scheduled to tee off at 5 a.m. (MDT) for its second round on Thursday, but that time has been pushed back indefinitely, due to the weather conditions. Check www.golobos.com or www.golfstatlive.com for updates Thursday morning.
