CHARDON, Ohio (May 20, 2006) - The TCU men's golf team saw its season come to a close on Saturday, as the Horned Frogs finished 13th at the 2006 NCAA Central Regional. The 14th-seeded Frogs, competing in the regionals for the 17th straight season, missed a top-10 finish by just five strokes.

TCU recorded a 15-over 299 on Saturday to finish the 54-hole event with an 889 (+37). Kentucky (885) claimed the 10th and final spot in the NCAA Championships, edging out Texas (886), Purdue (887) and TCU (889).

"We were in the tournament until the end," TCU head coach Bill Montigel said. "We went into regionals with just one player (Drew Stoltz) with NCAA experience and went head-to-head with some really great teams. We have four guys coming back next year, and this will serve as a great learning experience for them."

Stoltz registered the Frogs' best score of the final day, a 1-over 72 at the Sand Ridge Golf Club (par 71, 7,173 yards). As a result, the junior moved into a tie for 30th among the 141 golfers at 220 (+7). It was the second straight year that Stoltz paced the Horned Frogs at the NCAA Regionals.

Freshman Tom Miles (220) also tied for 30th place individually after a final-round score of 78. Miles was unable to card a birdie on the final day after posting eight over the first two rounds. His round of 69 on Friday matched a career best.

Fellow first-year player Jon McLean claimed a share of the 44th position. His final-round 74 (+3) was TCU's second best score of the day and his second best of the three-day tournament.

Sophomore Franklin Corpening settled into the 90th position at 229 (+16) after a 75 on Saturday. The team's lone senior, Drew Laning, finished his career by tying for 107th place. Laning's final-round 78 gave him a 232 (+19).

TCU and Texas are the only schools in the 32-team South Central Region, which includes schools in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana, to reach the postseason each year since 1990. TCU has advanced to the NCAA Championships 10 times over that span.
