Rams Move Up One Spot in Regional Tournament The Colorado State men's golf team shot a second-round 302 (+22) moving the team up to the 23rd spot in the 27-team field.
May 20, 2005 PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Colorado State men's golf team shot a second-round 302 (+22) moving the team up to the 23rd spot in the 27-team field Friday in the NCAA West Regional at Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. Derrick Whiting led the Rams in the second day of competition with a four-over-par 74 and now sits in a tie for 82nd overall in the tournament with a total of 150 (+10). CSU's Aaron Weston carded a five-over 75 while Nate Pettitt recorded a 76 on Friday to bring the pair to 14-over and 15-over for the event, respectively. John Hayes shot a seven-over 77 after a first round tally of 74 and now sits in a tie for 90th individually with an 11-over 151 while Kevin McAlpine rounded out CSU's scoring with an eight-over-par 78 on the day and is now at 12-over for the tournament. Mountin West schools UNLV, BYU and New Mexico hold down the top three spots in the tournament. The Rebels are two-under after a three-under 277 on Friday. BYU is in second, four strokes off the lead while the Lobos are tied with Washington for third place just 10 strokes behind the leader. BYU's Oscar Alvarez leads the tournament individually with a two-round score of 134 (-6). Play in the tournament concludes Saturday. Live scoring for the event can be found at www.golfstat.com.
