CSU Men's Golf Wraps Up First Round of Regional Action John Hayes and Kevin McAlpine led CSU on the day each firing a four-over 74 to end up in a tie for 70th overall.
May 19, 2005 PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Colorado State men's golf team shot a 23-over-par 303 in the first round of the NCAA West Regional Tournament at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., Thursday. The Rams are currently in a tie for 24th in the 27-team field. John Hayes and Kevin McAlpine led CSU on the day each firing a four-over 74 to end up in a tie for 70th overall in the tournament after the first round. Derrick Whiting carded a six-over 76 and sits in a tie for 103rd while Aaron Weston and Nate Pettitt round out the CSU scoring, each with a nine-over 79 in the first round. Mountain West foe BYU leads the tournament after a two-under 278 on Thursday while UNLV (281) and New Mexico (284) are in third and fifth place, respectively. Individually, BYU's Oscar Alvarez leads the event by three strokes with a seven-under 63 on the day.
Colorado State continues play in the second round of the regional on Friday.
The Rams begin play at 12:18 PT and will join Stanford and Texas-Arlington in
an afternoon slot of tee times. Live scoring for the second round can be
