Golf Finishes Fourth At MWC Tourney
Three Rebels squeeze into top 10.

SUNRIVER, Ore. - The UNLV men's golf team tied for fourth place at the Mountain West Conference Championship, shooting a final-round 291 to finish four strokes over par. The league's defending champ was unseeded by New Mexico, who led from wire-to-wire and finished the 54-hole tourney at nine-under par. The Lobos' Michael Letzig took medalist honors after winning a one-hole playoff with Colorado State's Martin Laird. Both players finished at six-under par. Leading the way for UNLV was sophomore Travis Whisman. Whisman concluded a stellar tournament with a final-round 73. He finished at one-under par in seventh place. Two strokes behind Whisman was Ryan Moore, who shot 71 for the second straight day to finish at one-over par. He tied for eighth place. JC Deacon was the third Rebel to crack the top 10. Deacon carded 74 to move to two-over for the tourney and fall into a six-way tie for 10th place. Ryan Keeney's 73 rounded out the Rebels' team total. Keeney finished tied for 22nd place with teammate Brien Davis, who shot 75 for the second straight day.
The Rebels now await an at-large bid from the NCAA selection committee. The committee will announce its selections for the postseason on Monday, May 5.
