SUNRIVER, Ore. - New Mexico claimed its first Mountain West Conference golf title today at the 2003 MWC Men's Golf Championship on the Crosswater Course (Par 72/7,270) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The Lobos led after each of the three rounds, today posting a team score of 291, for a 855 total, on a chilly day with intermittent precipitation.

UNM was led by Michael Letzig's three-under, 69, forcing a sudden death playoff with Colorado State's Martin Laird. Letzig claimed individual honors on the first sudden death hole with a par on the par 4, 386 yard, first hole.

Laird took a three shot lead into the final round at eight-under, 136, before carding a two-over 74 for the final round. Letzig began the day tied for seventh place, five shots back.

With the victory, New Mexico advances to the NCAA Championships. Regional competition takes place May 15-17, with teams advancing to the finals at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, OK, May 27-30.
