New Mexico Leads After Second Round of MWC Championship CSU's Laird holds individual lead.

SUNRIVER, Ore. - First-round leader New Mexico shot an even par 288 today to maintain its lead after two rounds of the 2003 MWC Men's Golf Championship being played on the Crosswater Course (Par 72/7,270) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. BYU posted the day's only sub-par team score with a three-under, 285. The Cougars are two shots back of UNM at minus 10 heading into tomorrow's final round. More MWC Championship records fell today. With a team score of 564 through 36 holes, New Mexico broke the old record of 566 set by UNLV in 2000. Colorado State's Martin Laird set a single-round record with a 66, and also set a 36-hole mark with a two-day total of 136, breaking the record established by CSU's Nigel Spence in 2000. Laird posted one of eight sub-par rounds on the day. He heads into the final round with a three shot lead over Lars Johansson (SDSU), Matthew Brunk (Wyoming), and Ron Harvey, Jr. (BYU). The third and final round of play will begin at 9 a.m. (PT) Saturday morning at the Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort.
