BYU Captures MWC Men's Golf Championship San Diego State's Lepak wins individual title.

SUNRIVER, Ore. - The Mountain West Conference Mens Golf Championship completed its third and final round today on the Crosswater Course (Par 72/7,193) at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. BYU held off the rest of the field by firing a final round 291, to claim the Mountain West Conference Mens Golf Championship. San Diego State, which began the day one shot off the lead, finished second, two stokes back, at 892. Colorado State, which also shot a team score of 292, placed third. New Mexico, which began the day tied for first with BYU, placed fourth at 899, after shooting a final round 300. UNLV, which shot the days low team score with a 290, finished fifth. Followed by Utah (916), Wyoming (925), and Air Force (947). San Diego junior John Lepak was the individual champion with a three-day total, 219, after posting an even par 72 on the final day. One shot back in second place was BYUs Jesse Hibler at 220. Scott Miller (BYU) and Dallas Massey (CSU) fired one-under par 71s and tied for third sport at 222. Colorado State's Martin Laird carded the days low round, with a two-under par 70. Miller, Massey and Wyoming's David Hearn were also under par with 71s. For the first day of the Championship, weather was not a significant factor, as the final round was played under sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s.
