    SUNRIVER, Ore. - New Mexico carded an opening round Mountain West Conference Championship record 276 today at the 2003 MWC Men's Golf Championship being played on the Crosswater Course (Par 72/7,270) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.

    The Lobos had four of its five players record sub-par rounds in posting a 12-under par opening round team score. BYU and San Diego State are tied for second at minus seven (281), while Wyoming, UNLV and Colorado State are in a log-jam in fourth position at one-under.

    Individually, Lars Johansson (SDSU) and Ron Harvey, Jr. (BYU) shot five under, 67's, in setting an MWC single-round record, bettering the mark of 68 set seven times in conference championship tournament history. A pair of Lobos, Jay Choi and Madalitso Muthiya, are one back at four-under, 68.

    The second round of play will begin at 9 a.m. (PT) Friday morning at the Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort.
