Whisman Four Strokes Off Lead Rebels in sixth place at conference championships.

SUNRIVER, Ore. - Amidst heavy drizzle, 25-35 mph winds and 60-degree temperatures, the UNLV men's golf team sits in sixth place after the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championships at the Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort on Monday.
Leading the Rebels was freshman Travis Whisman, who is tied for seventh place overall and sits four strokes off the lead after firing a first-round 76.
Colorado State's James Kurtenbach shot even par 72 to post a two-stroke lead over teammate Robby Stephenson. The duo's performance has the Rams atop the leaderboard with a first-day total of 301, 13-over par.
The Rebels shot 316 as a team, 28-over par. Freshman James Oh carded a 79, senior Scott Lander shot 80 and sophomore Brien Davis posted an 81 to produce UNLV's total.
The second round of the 54-hole championship will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1.
