BYU Leads MWC Championship after Day Two

CSU senior Martin Laird continues to be the individual leader.

BEND, Ore. - BYU moved into first place at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Menâ's Golf Championship after carding a two-under 286 today on the Crosswater Course (Par 72/7,568) at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The Cougars 36-hole team total stands at two-over 578, three strokes ahead of defending champion New Mexico (295-286=581). San Diego State dropped from first to third after firing a 294 today and holding a two-day total of 582. Colorado State is in fourth place at eight-over, 584 (289-295), followed by UNLV (586), Utah (590), Wyoming (610) and Air Force (626).

Colorado State senior Martin Laird continues to be the individual leader despite a second round low 67 by teammate Nolan Martin. Laird followed up his course record 64 in the first round with a one-over 73 today and has a 36-hole total of seven-under 137. Three players are tied for second, two-strokes behind the leader. Colorado State's Nolan Martin (72-67), San Diego State's Mark Warman (69-70), and UNLV's Ryan Moore (70-69) are all at five-under 135.

The third and final round will begin at 9:30 a.m. (PT) Saturday.
